XPS 13 7390 "No bootable devices found"

Hi,

Please help because I know nothing about computers. I have an XPS 13 7390 without a warranty (Dell says it's a software issue so I'd have to pay for their support). I thought that there were viruses on it so I decided to wipe it and googled. At the Dell logo screen, I pressed F2 then I selected "wipe on next boot" and confirmed that several times.

Since then, I haven't been able to use my laptop. When I turn it on it makes a clicking sound and there's a message that says "No bootable devices found". What should I do to fix it?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Of course there are no bootable devices, because you wiped your boot drive. You erased all of it, including Windows. The drive is now blank, so there is no operating system for the computer to boot from.

You will need to install Windows.

  1. Use Microsoft's Media Creation Tool to create a bootable flash drive with Windows 10 installer or Windows 11 installer.
  2. Disconnect all peripherals: printers; USB devices; media cards; USB hubs and extenders; etc.
  3. Boot from the Windows installer flash drive and install Windows from scratch.
  4. After installing Windows, you will be able to boot into your new Windows installation. Answer questions and choose options in the OOBE (Out of Box Experience) to personalize your Windows system.
  5. After installing Windows and before you connect to the Internet, install Intel Chipset Device Software and Intel Management Engine Components. Check Dell's support site for any other drivers in the chipset category.
  6. Connect to the Internet and run Windows Update. This will take a while, as many system updates, security definitions and hardware drivers will download and install. You will find that many required drivers will install automatically the first time you run Windows Update. For any drivers that do not install, check Dell's site or use a Dell tool such as SupportAssist or Dell Update.

If your Windows installer cannot see your internal drive, it's probably because you have RAID enabled. Windows installer doesn't include the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver that is necessary for RAID. You would have to pause the Windows installer to insert that driver, such as in this process:

An alternative is to enter BIOS and switch RAID to AHCI, then boot from your installer. With AHCI enabled, the Windows installer will see your drive. This is the simpler option.

Since you say that you "know nothing about computers", it may be helpful if a knowledgeable friend can do this for you.
