XPS 13 9320, does not detect lid closure

Question

My laptop screen and applications keep running when I close the lid, which totally drains the battery between uses. I have changed the lid closure when on battery settings to sleep or hibernate, and also used Command prompt to power off and on the hibernate function. However, nothing shuts down the screen (or produces any noticeable effect at all) when I close the lid. I presume the laptop fails to recognize when the lid is closed? Appreciate any tips or help!

I fixed it with some Dell support: BIOS power setting, Lid switch --> enable lid switch/power on Lid open. I hope that works for you as well.

There is a switch in the base of the unit that is activated by a magnet located in the display assy. (usually on one edge of the screen assy.). It is possible that the switch is defective or, if you have had any repair work on the display, that the magnet was not installed in the display or possibly the magnet has fallen out of place. To test the switch take a medium size magnet and slowly run it along the perimeter of the palmrest assy. If the laptop goes to sleep then the problem is the magnet. If not then the switch is suspect.
