XPS 13 9360, does upgrading SSD void warranty?

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum. Appreciate if anyone can advise whether upgrading SSD will void warranty. If possible, I would like my warranty to be intact while upgrading to a bigger SSD (currently mine is using 256 GB).

Is there an option to request for this from Dell?

It won’t void the warranty. However:

- If you break anything while performing the upgrade, that damage wouldn’t be covered by your warranty.

- The new SSD itself wouldn’t be covered by your system warranty.

- If you ever had a problem with your system later, Dell might want you to reinstall the original SSD before they troubleshoot it, but this doesn’t always happen.

Also note that the XPS 13 9360 has an NVMe configuration that means the highest sequential throughput it can achieve is about 1.8 GB/s, so don’t expect anything higher even if you install an SSD that can do more.

Thanks a lot once again! I've read on the bottleneck on the SSD performance which you answered in a different discussion. Now that this is sorted, I’ll look into the Samsung SSD as suggested.

Generally not. On certain items that you buy directly from Dell, you'll see notes on them like, "When used with a Dell system, this item is supported by Dell and inherits the system warranty if it is longer than the item's warranty." But I haven't seen that on SSDs available for consumer laptop models. I wouldn't let that deter you, though. Lots of people have installed Samsung Evo 9x0 SSDs into their XPS 13 9360 and it works just fine as long as you know to expect that performance bottleneck I mentioned.
