XPS 13 9360 Sudden Shutdowns on Newly Replaced Battery
Hello everyone,
I own a Dell XPS13 9360 (bought in 2017) whose battery I just replaced myself, and while most of the time it works much better, I have noticed a new issue with this battery. Dell's SupportAssist and the BIOS boot both say that there are no problems with the battery and that it is in excellent health.
When the computer runs on battery power, sometimes the power button will simply not work and I won't be able to turn on the computer until I plug it into the charger first. After that I am mostly able to use the laptop unplugged from its charger.
Another issue (which has only happened once so far) is that the computer will randomly shut down when running on battery power (where the first issue kicks back in often times).

It's ok to replace batteries yourself, Dell provides excellent documentation. Via "Tom's" website i used following procedure. 1) remove old battery, 2) push powerbutton 10 sec 3) apply power 4)push powerbutton till reboot 4) shutdown 5) power off, 6) insert new battery 7) pushpower button till reboot.
The battery nr. is than accepted bij the computer. This also resolves sudden shutdowns.
Battery world is tricky i would say (sorry) (almost random quality. The first OEM DELL battery hold for 1.8 years (7-6 hours power). My second OEM DELL battery i obtained via DELL, after 3.5 months its performance was like 20 minutes, since it exceeded (parts) guarantee i did not get a new one. My third battery i bought via UK and was supposed to be original DELL but of course was counterfeit. This one is still ok after 1.5 years.

Where did you get the replacement battery? Batteries must come from Dell or Dell Parts. Many counterfeits and scams online and in Marketplaces. See--Dell Laptop Battery - Frequently Asked Questions | Dell US

As the previous poster included in his steps, did you make sure that when the battery was out you pushed and held the power button for 10 - 30 seconds? Sometimes, residual power is left in there and can cause issues if not released before now battery put in. Also, as was mentioned, for whatever reason Dell laptops sometimes don't like aftermarket batteries.

I bought a well-reviewed one from Amazon (Chinese brand) because it was literally 1/3 of the price, and after a few days since I made this post the computer seems to be running well with no more sudden shutdowns.

Thank you for the suggestion, that was something I had not done previously. Regardless, after a few days of using the computer with the new battery it has stopped randomly shutting down and the battery life has drastically improved (7 hrs+ SOT). Maybe the residual power has been drained or something? If it starts having this issue again I'll definitely hold the power button for 10 sec etc.
