Same problem with a XPS 13 9370 less than 18 month of service. Keyboard warped touchpad popping up. I just removed the battery. Out of warranty on January 26, 2020.
Hi, I have been experiencing the SAME problem on my XPS 15. The trackpad will swell up and the only way to fix the issue is to replace the battery. I replaced the battery soon after. The laptop has spent most of its time plugged in and received many Warning messages. It’s such a shame that a premium laptop would have such a short life. My 2014 MacBook Pro is still in Perfect Condition. I replaced my battery but still have problems on the laptop. So, it was kinda useless for me.
What gets me is that there is no warning message that the battery is failing.
I didn't realize it was my battery swelling until I searched for warped keyboards on Dell xps13s.
The laptop in question still ran for 4 to 5 hours on the battery and is only just over 18 months old so there wasn't any reason to think the battery was failing.
The only major warning sign were occasional windows blue screens which when investigated pointed to an unspecified hardware failure.
It may be that the laptop is now irreparably damaged by the battery, I don't know until I get a replacement.
Batteries do swell a bit but that is usually accounted for in the design of the laptop so as to not affect the hardware.
In the case of Dell there is no room for any eventual swelling so battery ends up buggering up your 2000 USD laptop... a very bad design floor... one could say failure by design!
What's for sure is that for the price paid one shouldn't be getting these problems!
