XPS 13 left headphone static noise

Hi all

Any ideas on how to fix this? I've had this issue since the laptop arrived and I see others are having problems. I have the latest Realtek and MaxxAudio software installed.

shaunh_nz,

This issue can be resolved by switching your Realtek audio driver with Windows native driver (High Definition Audio Device). Follow the steps below to switch the audio driver.

    1. Go to Device Manager.

    1. Expand Sound, Video and Game controllers.

    1. Right click RealtekAudio and click Update driver.

    1. Click Browse my computer for driver software.

    1. Click Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.

  1. Select High Definition Audio Device and then Next to complete.

Many thanks Jesse.

I tried this and I think I am close to getting it working.....I installed the High Definition Audio Device  and rebooted but the speaker icon in the taskbar has a red cross on it and says no speakers or headphones are plugged in, and I have no sounds. But when I go to sound settings it says that speakers and headphones are installed and working fine.

As I say I think  I am close....any suggestions?

Many thanks

If you are still in warranty, I would call Dell support and get the situation on record.  It is not normal for one sound channel to have static with the other one clear.

Knowing what model of XPS 13 it is might help and do you hear it with the internal speakers or another headset.

Make sure the audio plug is fully inserted.  Any description of the sound itself?  Since headsets are more sensitive to certain types of noise, it may be some internal function bleeding over into that sound channel.

SmartByte is something which has in the past caused some sound problems.  If it is running on your system, you could try ending that task in Task Manager and see if it changes anything.
