XPS 13 Plus 13th gen

Does anyone know if the 13th gen i7-1370p will be an available CPU for this laptop?

I could not see 1370p as an option when trying to buy a new laptop. I was therefore wondering if this is not a valid option, or if it is just temporarily not in stock.

That CPU is on the supported processor list here. If you are asking can the CPU be upgraded that would be no, unless you are replacing the entire MB as the CPU is soldered to the MB.

At least in the US, I don't see any of these with 13th generation CPUs -- the XPS 15 and 17 have them, so it's just a matter of time before they arrive in the XPS 13 Plus model.

Being new CPUs just released in Q1 2023, it may be they're not available in sufficient quantity for the manufacturer of the system to reliably source them. It's not uncommon for faster units of Intel's newer CPUs to be in short supply until the production process is refined sufficiently.

The other issue with this system is a practical one -- these are relatively power hungry CPUs and they're mounted in a very slim chassis without a large heatsink.  At best they're a compromise -- yes, the CPUs are far more capable than the ones in the standard XPS 13 (those are ultra low power), but no - you can't expect them to run at full speed for very long in such a slim chassis.  They will throttle.

The norwegian website and some other europen countries as well has already 13th gen available, e.g. 1360p and 1340p. Seems a bit odd that 1370p is not available when its compatible with the 13 plus

Do you mean that it is not worth it due to the slim chassis that makes the cou not perform at its best?

The first part of that is editorializing more than I intended, but the latter part is correct.

Don't expect high performance out of the i7 CPU in an XPS 13 Plus.  It WILL handle tasks faster than the ultra-low power CPUs in the standard XPS 13.  It will not handle extensive operation at full speed, if that's you're intention.  If it is, look for a larger format system with a more capable heatsink.

There's only so much you can do to cool a system this thin and light - installing a full power CPU in this chassis will reveal a reality check dealt by the laws of thermodynamics.

If the work is CPU-intensive, an XPS 15 would be a better idea.

My main use would be in scientific computing. As a major part of my university studies relies heavily on programming, I would love a laptop with beautiful display and good performance, which I believe this laptop checks. At this time I have the standard XPS 13 but it gets really bad performance-wise when dealing with huge data sets. This gives me anxiety just to think about:D

Yes, as I have beta-tested it. It's very fast and nice (OLED screen and everything) ... it was "loaded".

If Dell decides to release it, I think in USA is usually first.

Sorry, that's all I can really say about it.

If there is a shortage of the latest Gen Intel laptop processors, pretty sure Intel sends Dell some anyway.  Dell has had some Intel i7-1370p processors for months now.

Ah, thanks for the reply. Now I am considering if I should go for the OLED screen instead

Does anyone have an update on this? The manual also mentions i7-1370P, but as of today the only CPU available is the i7-1360P
