XPS 15 7590, BIOS update disabling undervolting

Question

I've had an XPS 15 7590 for a few years now and it's been generally great. When I first got the machine I used ThrottleStop to undervolt it a bit and just forgot about it.

However, recently some strange things started to happen. The temps were consistently and generally hotter. The fans were on permanently, there was noticeable increase in coil whine and I started to get BSODs.

Well it turns on there was a BIOS update that was automatically installed sometime in the last few months. I checked ThrottleStop and I noticed FIVR UI was disabled. A bit of research indicates that new BIOS's disables the ability to undervolt.

I've since downgraded the bios to version 1.12 and configured the BIOS to not allow it to be updated via Windows Update etc. ThrottleStop is working again and so is my laptop.

Sharing this in case anyone else has similar experience.

Yes, i downgraded to 1.12 vers and i can successfully undervolt cpu and gpu

Can you share your settings in Throttlestop? I have an XPS that is running some DAW software (Digital Audio Workstation) and I'm getting some audio drop outs, and LatencyMon is telling me that there's probably some power related issues.

I will also downgrade to 1.12, so I can undervolt.

Also, where did you find the 1.12 version of the Bios?

Dont undervolt too much, CPU is set to -135mV and GPU is - 40. It is around these values. well, i tried -150mv for cpu too and it works fine but dont undevolt too much and i use ableton DAW and it works marvelous without any perfomance lag and fans dont even start. I use throttle stop o my other custom OS so i dont remeber the vaues.

Hello, My BIOS for 7590 is currently on 1.21 and while trying to downgrade I get this error. Any help on how I can downgrade so ThrottleStop works again ?&#xa0;

@mayureshs​ bad news, as mentioned on  the Dell download page, downgrade from version 1.21 and higher is restricted to version 1.21. It is for security reasons but yes, that could also be considered intrusive.
