XPS 15 7590 - Undoing Changes After Installing Windows 10 version 2004

Hello, I'm using Dell XPS 15 7590 (i9, 32GB, 1TB).

Currently, I've got Windows 10 version 1909 installed and I've finally received the 2004 feature update request on Windows Update.

After downloading and installing the update, the computer is restarting and then when applying the changes it stops and reverts all of it ("Undoing all changes..") which leads to the same 1909 Windows version.

I'll be glad to receive guidance towards updating my pc.

Microsoft couldn't help with the problem so I'm hoping someone here might help.

Thank you.

The listing seems to show a component of Kaspersky seems to be causing the problem.  Something related to the registry is causing some type of conflict.  When your install is migrated, everything that has to be migrated (moved) must work.

So, maybe doing a repair of the software will help but it might be best to see if Kaspersky has an uninstaller to use so you can get rid of all remnants.  You might check your registry for the key mentioned and see what it is showing.  It may be something left from an earlier install of the software or a different version.

HKCU\Software\KasperskyLab\AVP20.0

If you don't know how to look at the registry, let us know..

One thing that might help is, if you have the 2004 install media, look in the sources folder for a setupdiag.exe file.  You can run that and it will place a listing and a file folder on the USB drive.  Copy and paste the listing it has, if you want.

If you can't find it, go to the site below and download and run it.  Lower on this page is a section regarding 2004 changes related to this utility, so look at that.  If this file doesn't give a reason, more files may be necessary to evaluate..

fwiw 2004 will work with the 7590 as I have it running on mine.

that being said, I did a clean install on mine so can't really offer any insight on what to try next.

I would try completely uninstalling Kaspersky then retry the update.

You should be able to remove it from programs and features but keep the licence info during the uninstall.

If you run into issues during uninstalling then you could use the Kaspersky removal tool but this wipes your licence info.
