XPS 15 9530, Nvidia GPU Not detected
After recent BIOS updates, my laptop stopped detecting the Nvidia GPU. I’ve tried downgrading the BIOS and reinstalling the Nvidia drivers, but nothing seems to work. For a premium laptop, this is incredibly disappointing. If these BIOS updates are causing hardware failures, who’s responsible for it?

Hi @AnujFulari,
I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. When the Nvidia GPU disappears after a BIOS update, it usually points to either a BIOS configuration issue or a driver conflict, and not necessarily a hardware failure. Here are a few steps that often help bring the GPU back:
1. Reset BIOS to default settings
Enter the BIOS by pressing F2 at startup and select the option to restore defaults. Save and restart. Sometimes the GPU gets disabled or misconfigured after an update.
2. Check BIOS for graphics settings
Make sure the BIOS is set to switchable graphics or hybrid mode. If it is set to integrated only, the Nvidia GPU will not show up in Windows.
3. Completely reinstall GPU drivers
Use Display Driver Uninstaller in Safe Mode to remove all Nvidia and Intel graphics drivers. Then reinstall Intel graphics first, followed by the Nvidia driver from the Dell support page for your exact XPS 15 9530 model.
4. Update chipset and Intel ME drivers
These control communication between the CPU, GPU, and system firmware. Missing or outdated chipset drivers can cause the Nvidia GPU to disappear.
5. Check Device Manager for hidden or error devices
Open Device Manager, click View, then Show Hidden Devices. If Nvidia appears with an error, the code can help identify the issue.
6. Test with Dell ePSA diagnostics
Restart and press F12, run diagnostics. If the Nvidia card shows up in the tests, it means the hardware is fine and the issue is firmware or driver related.
7. If nothing works
The final step is to contact Dell Support with your Service Tag. If the BIOS update caused the issue, they can investigate deeper and provide a repair or board replacement if needed.
If you find my reply helpful, please mark this as a solution.
