XPS 15 9560, sluggish

I have an XPS 15 9560 which was purchased in May last year. 16GB memory with 512 GB SDD. It is running current Windows 10 and current BIOS. I have noticed recently that the computer is slow at just about everything. Programs load slowly. Windows File explorer opens slowly. Web pages are slow to open. Is this something others have noticed? Is this something caused by Windows 10 recent updates? My 2013 MacBook Pro is much faster. Any thoughts on why such high end hardware would be so sluggish? Any suggestions on how to speed it up? No viruses or malware are detected.

Thanks Towels!

That made my day. I was thinking about selling the d*mned thing. Now it runs like it did when I bought it.

Only problem now is that it looses the tuning setting when I reboot. Any solution to that?

Same for me! Unplugging the battery for a minute made a huge performance change!!

Thanks @TomDollar!

I have a Dell Studio XPS I bought in 2010, I backed it up as per the instructions to a usb stick, but it didn’t work, the stick was still empty after several attempts, also with different sticks. I also tried reverting to an earlier save point, very very slight improvement. It started slowing down after a year, it became unusable after 2 and a half years and hasn’t been used since it’s been shut off and put at the back of the wardrobe. Dell was recommendeded to me by my sister, who has now given up on anything to do with windows pc’s and moved to Apple she has a Mac, laptops and iPads and iPhones for her and the kids. I will buy an Apple laptop when I can afford it, until then I get by on an iPad and iPhone, her Apple stuff is still running like new, she also uses external drives with them.

My xps 15 9560 recently slowed down after coming back from a trip. Absolutely everything lagged...  after lots of updating and uninstalling, the only conclusion was that it had to be a hardware issue. I recently replaced my battery so i was going to start there thinking it might be faulty .... but SO glad i found this thread and i'm suuuper grateful for all of you who figured out the disconnect and reconnecting the battery solution, because it totally worked for me too!! The thing is that I probably wouldn't have reconnected the battery (and would've gone through another rabbit hole contacting the battery seller etc.) if it wasn't for you!
Thank you thank you!!

I didn't have the tools to unplug my battery, but I decided to disconnect my charger and drain the battery to 0%. Haven't had time to do that yet, but after restarting my laptop unplugged (still at 95% battery), I saw an increase in performance. I also disabled some apps from firing up during startup - so alternatuvely that could have helped. I think the fact that my laptop sits on a desk always plugged in might be the main cause to this sluggish problem. I still intend to drain my battery completely to see if that helps overall. Otherwise, I'll invest in a screwdriver to tryout the battery trick. Something with power / battery seems responsible due to the improvement after unplugging the charger.

Can confirm what many others have said. I had my XPS 15 9560 for a little over two years and literally overnight it just started acting sluggish an unusable. I struggled with it for several weeks, running various diagnostics, etc, etc and nothing.

One thing I will say, I tried unplugging the battery once but only left it unplugged for ~30 seconds. Nothing changed. Then I came back to this thread and read how everyone unplugged it for "a minute" or so. So I tried again, this time leaving the battery unplugged for five minutes. Now I have my old computer back! Running smooth as before!
