XPS 15 9570 GPU crashing
XPS 15 9570
Hi there,
This can't be just me, but I'm having issues with GPU crashes in Windows.
I did a clean Windows 11 install, downloaded the latest BIOS and drivers about a month ago from the Dell support site (and since then, updated the Nvidia driver to 522.25)
The issue has occurred both in Adobe Lightroom and Unity.
I will load the application, which uses the GeForce 1050TI GPU. Using it is totally fine, but then if I leave the laptop for a period, or if I switch to do something else, then return to the app, it crashes out and I get an error related to the display driver. If I restart the app, it is slow, like the Nvidia GPU isn't engaging, and only a system restart will sort it.
I'm almost sure that the GPU switching is to blame, but have no idea how to sort it? I've seen some solutions (older ones) saying driver updates work (but I'm on the latest versions of the drivers and apps), and others saying to disable one of the GPUs, but this isn't ideal?
Any ideas?

You can try to disable the integrated graphics, if you just want the software to run off of your dedicated GPU. Then report back with any results. Also, see if Intel has a new driver on their website than Dell provides.

Thank you, I looked on the Intel website and there was a newer driver on there than the one on the Dell site. It never occurred to me that the problem might be with the Intel driver rather than the Nvidia one, but fingers crossed, everything has been fine since I installed it.

Happened again today sadly, Windows log shows:
Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.
(it didn't recover!)

Go into device manager and recheck all of your drivers (versions etc). Also did anything regarding your system change over the days between when you installed the new Intel driver and when the problem reoccurred?

This is still on-going unfortunately. I used the DDU facility to completely uninstall the old graphics card drivers in safe mode (Intel and nVidia), and then install the drivers again.
The drivers are showing the latest versions (EDIT: I've just seen that Intel have released a new driver on 26th October, so I will give that a go)
Since then Lightroom had been okay, but I just tried Premiere Pro and got a BSOD due to Driver Power State Failure (I was getting these quite frequently when I had the issues before). There's nothing in the Event Viewer system log, so it was quite sudden.
This is really bugging me. I've tried turning off the Intel GPU in Device Manager (led to massive instability), changed some power settings (e.g. turned off PCI Express Link State Power Management) as I thought it was related to Windows switching loads between 3D/normal applications.
3D performance in games is absolutely fine, no crashes apart from occasional crashes if I switch between the game and the desktop and back again.

I'm having similar issues with Lightroom and Photoshop. Did you manage to find a fix? @d5123101@tony_ack

Sadly not, I'm convinced it is something to do with changing power states and Windows switching from the Nvidia to Intel graphics as a result.
I manage it by not letting the laptop idle with Lightroom/Photoshop/Premiere/Unity running, and exiting Lightroom if I switch to another task for more than a couple of minutes.
It's totally fine playing games because I don't tend to switch away to another task and leave the game running in the background.

I have had a similar problem with Dell XPS 15, 9500, and utilized the opposite solution. I forced the Dell to run with the integrated graphics chipset. If I don't the laptop goes blue screen or does not wake from hibernation.
Nvidia and DELL are not compatible. They have never solved the issue in my 3 years of ownership.
