XPS 16 1645, Base System Device
I'm recently installed a SSD drive on my XPS 1645 laptop; used the operating system from my wife's xps pc to install (couldn't find mind), and everything went well.
I found the driver cd that came with my 1645 laptop. Installed software for most important (or related) components and now I am having a problem with the unknown driver thing.
"Other devices" ----Base System Device Location: PCI bus 9, device 0, function 1
Device Status: ---- ...device are not installed (Code 28) [no details]
PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_E230&SUBSYS_02FE1028&REV_01
PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_E230&SUBSYS_02FE1028
PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_E230&CC_088000
PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_E230&CC_0880
-----Base System Device Location: PCI bus 9, device 0, function 2
Device Status: ---- ...device are not installed (Code 28) [no details]
PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_E852&SUBSYS_02FE1028&REV_01
PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_E852&SUBSYS_02FE1028
PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_E852&CC_088000
PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_E852&CC_0880
It would appear the system is looking at the same component. But that's just my guess.
Thanks guys.

It's not the same device because the DEV ID portion is different between the two. A quick Google search indicates that both of those VEN and DEV pairs relate to a memory card reader. You probably have two because the SD and MMC reader capabilities might be classified as different hardware even if there's only one physical slot, for example.

JonZeig1,
Once you install the OS you will need to install the drivers in the correct order. Starting with the Chipset Drivers first. Click the link below to download the drivers for your computer. The other link is driver install order.
If you are installing Windows 10 on this computer then, Dell has no drivers available.

Hay Jesse,
I deeply appreciate your assistants in this matter and I'm clear as to whether your aware that I've installed os already. I say that only because I had pm another member and he advised that I might not have to uninstall what I've already installed. Unfortunately, I've install a couple of the drivers multiple times, but with no total success.
He advised that I post here on the forum, along with the details you see above. I have the disk, as mention, with the old drivers and I am aware of the Dell page that contains my updates.
I guess my next question would be, do I need to uninstall everything and start over (seems I remember doing something like that in my system support days) or should I try the memory reader driver and cross my fingers.
Thanks again

You were right. I pulled up the properties window and did the update driver; putted to C:\dell; it searched folders and found the drivers. It was like magic. I was even nice to tell that the drivers were installed - no flashing lites or duration timer.
Thanks guys
