XPS 17 9710 S3 Sleep State

Just purchased a new XPS 17 9710 and installed a fresh copy of Windows 11.

Everything is working except for the real sleep/standby, which Windows says it's not supported by the system firmware.

C:\> powercfg /a The following sleep states are available on this system: Standby (S0 Low Power Idle) The following sleep states are not available on this system: Standby (S1) The system firmware does not support this standby state. Standby (S2) The system firmware does not support this standby state. Standby (S3) The system firmware does not support this standby state.

Does this laptop really not support S3? And if not, how do I enable it?

I tried everything suggested on this article: https://appuals.com/disable-modern-standby-windows/ but nothing I do seems to work. I can disable S0 but I can never get S3 enabled.

I have a Lenovo X1 with the exact same Windows 11 installation and S3 is working fine:

C:\> powercfg /a

The following sleep states are available on this system:
    Standby (S3)

The following sleep states are not available on this system:
    Standby (S1)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.

    Standby (S2)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.

    Standby (S0 Low Power Idle)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.

Can anybody confirm (by using the powercfg /a command) that S3 standby is indeed supported by the XPS 15/17 BIOS?

My XPS 17 while plugged-in and in S0 standby uses anywhere between 2 and 10 watts, which is totally unacceptable.

Same issue.

Top of the line XPS 9710 and I am afraid to put it in the backpack while its "sleeping".

Loved my XPS 17 but this for me was a deal breaker. The BIOS obviously doesn't (and probably never will) support the S3 sleeping state. Hibernating a laptop with 64GB of RAM is no fun. So I reluctantly returned it.

ksere,

S3 sleep is no longer available with modern standby. You should not place your laptop in a backpack with no ventilation while your system is on.
