XPS 9360, Fingerprint reader has stopped working

I believe there are a number of related issues here and the fingerprint reader may be a consequence of something else.

Background

• XPS 9360, Win10 22H2, full patched Windows/Dell/drivers etc.
• Fingerprint read WAS working fine
• Switched from my old Dell WD15 base station to an HP Thunderbolt Dock G2 base station due to support for a LG 27MD5KA 5K screen (Thunderbolt only and not compatible with the WD15)
• Had G2 base station + 2x external panels + Fingerprint reader all working without issue
• Disconnected 9360 from base station for a week and on reconnection G2 not recognized and nothing will work from it. Fingerprint reader went bad at same time. LOTS of detail posted (by accident) on Inspiron board and then cross-posted on this board. Sadly no reply

Situation now:

• Device Manager reports "cannot load the drivers for this device (Code 31)"
• Redownload of the Synaptics driver does not resolve issue. I've tried both:
  • Fingerprint-Sensor-Driver_JYT5P_WIN64_20.6.0.7_A02.EXE
  • Synaptics-VFS7552-Touch-Fingerprint-Sensor-Driver_PPXT9_WIN_5.1.3223.26_A04.EXE
• Diagnostics reports failure of both the fingerprint sensor and "UsbStatus"
  Diagnotics results
  ... sadly no 'Action' over the failures
  
  
• I have tried downgrading from BIOS 2.2.1.0 to 2.2.0.0 but no effect

I doubt a true hardware failure and suspect the fingerprint issue may be linked to this 'UsbStatus' issue which also explains the issue with the G2 base station. Sadly though, I can find nothing under 'UsbStatus' issues.

Anyone any ideas? I have been through most diagnostic steps, driver updates etc and all options get me nowhere
