XPS 9720 -brand new- (ASF2 bios shutdown, disk controller errors, SupportOS no connection)
XPS 17 9720
Dear Fellow Users
I got my brand new machine XPS 9720 with i9 12900 processor. Pretty nice equipment. Updated to all last DELL software and new Win11 Pro
Need the following info from you please!!
1) Bios menu claims 8.5 GHZ max clock frequency ? Do you also have the same value?
2) Suddenly it turns off. Bios says ASF2 force off. It happened with the old bios and the new bios, while simply setting up my workspace and seeing youtube.
3) Windows claimed three times since Friday Disk Controller Error in the Windows Event viewer for System. Do you colleagues had any similar issue ? Is it the driver or something else. I am sure the hardware is not at least as far as the Dell diagnostic and the smart tools for the disk.
4) I have tried reformatting. The classical solution to all problems. However, the BIOS remote connection or the Support OS connection is not functioning. Btw, i had to manually update the bios as the dell software would not find the 1.11 version.
Please if you have some info on the above let me know.
Regards to all

You may want to recheck the Processor speed you state. There is no processor I know of that does 8.5 GHz. The manual shows 4.5 GHz, so maybe just a typo.
If you click on the error in the Event Viewer it will give more info, perhaps that would help.
You can also see a graph that shows daily errors and whatever else might be happening. You can use the command below in a Run Box.
perfmon /rel
If you are having drive controller errors, do you know how your system is configured? Have you made any changes to its operation?
It might also be important for us to know if your system is running Optane Memory and would need a specific controller configuration.

1. Sounds like an incorrect display of information. Thanks for the report. However, I don't think it affects the performance of your new laptop.
2. This requires further troubleshooting. Google and Dell-Forum searches reveals it might be related to the battery, charger, or power-system in some way. I suggest you call Dell Technical Support for help with this issue.
3. The image you uploaded for "disk error" appears to just the BIOS-based OS Recovery not working properly. I kinda doubt there is anything wrong with your SSDs.
4. If you want reload the OS on your laptop, there are better ways. However, I doubt it will help with "ASF2 Force Off". See what Dell Support says (I've never seen that on any XPS laptop).
