XPS M1730 Looking to upgrade need help

Question

So folks here's a blast from the past.

I have the above laptop. It's been in a cupboard for many years but in very good condition and my son asks me can it be upgraded to play current games. I'm no techy so need major help with all the bits and pieces you guys call CPU/GPU etc. I have just found a battery online and replaced it.

I went ahead and wiped it and installed Windows 7 32bit so I could upload Steam as he plays Rome 11 Total War on his friends machine. I see that it needs 64 bit to run and rooting about on the machine I see it's 64 bit capable so I suppose that's a plus.

I'm gonna go ahead and list the system stats and if any kind person out there can tell me what I would need to buy to upgrade it to cope with these games I would be very grateful. Can you please also tell me if it IS able to be upgraded, then what are we looking at in terms of cost against buying a new machine (rather not do that at the mo).

Bear in mind that even with every possible upgrade, this system will only meet the bare minimums for playing that game.

For any given game, unless you're willing to disable every video enhancement, and throttle back the settings, the recommended hardware is a better starting point -- and that's well beyond anything you can do with this system. While this isn't a highly demanding game (it can be played easily with a 2018-version "entry level" gaming system), you're asking about playing it on an 11-year old system. There's just no upgrade that will bring an M1730 anywhere near what's needed for this or Steam games.

You do need a new system - the one you have will not be a satisfactory platform for upgrade, no matter how much you spend.

windows 7 ultra 64 bit.( win 10 also works but not recommended).

it may not play the latest games but as you can see even in 2019 it can play lot of good games and is one of the best and cool laptops ever made, the price for this laptop was over $ 4000 so that means good quality, how many laptops cost that much even in 2019 ? a few maybe. this laptop is a treasure.
