See this message thread for a solution:

https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/Restart-has-become-very-slow/td-p/8045352

"I can confirm the new Realtek Audio Driver (6.0.9210.1, A10) is the culprit.

I tried to reinstall it but the same issue occurred (slow restart). I installed the previous version (6.0.9098.1, A09and the issue stopped."

And this:

https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/SLOW-REBOOT-RESTART-after-dell-updates/td-p/8044177/page/2

"I have the same problem, can confirm it is the Realtek Audio driver.

Device Manager -> Sound, video, and game controllers -> Realtek(R) Audio.

Right-click and disabling does solve the issue.

Also, right-click -> properties -> driver -> Roll Back Driver also solves the issue, and you can keep your sound."  THIS WORKS.

Anyone can respond on this discussion?

I have a XPS 9500 with i7. I didn't notice this issue until my company distribute a laptop from another brand to me. That is a 2 generation older laptop. Boot up there took less than 20 second from power on to Windows logon screen. However, for my own Dell XPS 9500, the boot up time took up to 38 seconds to reach Windows logon.

I have 2 x 32GB RAM installed (Each with different timing due to stock availability). I don't think I have rapid boot up enabled.

I have experienced this same issue for about 3 weeks.  I am currently running Dell BIOS - XPS 15 9500 - BIOS Version/Date Dell Inc. 1.9.1, 8/11/2021 - Windows Professional - Version 10.0.19043 Build 19043

Wow! Thanks for the information. It was driving me crazy trying to figure out what was causing the slow restart. Another aspect I saw was after the update to 6.0.9210.1, A10 I also noticed that the Waves MaxxAudio Pro would no longer support/recognize my Sony Bluetooth Headphones and lost the capability to use the EQ.

What I did was:
1. Uninstall the Waves MaxxAudio Pro
2. Install the Realtek driver 6.0.9098.1, A09
3. Reinstall the Waves MaxxAudio Pro

Just noticed today, after installing the previous version Realtek driver 6.0.9098.1, A09, my XPS 15 9500 today stated I needed a reboot with updates. The updates that were auto updated were the Realtek driver 6.0.9210.1, A10?? How did this get updated automatically? I did not see the SupportAssist run or ask for an update. Would Windows 10 Pro perform this update?

Looking for input how I can disable any updates to the Realtek driver? Anyone?

Thanks

Follow up... I think the automatic updates were happening with the Dell Update and Dell Update for Universal Windows that was installed on my XPS 15 9500? As far as I can tell, these are not needed so for now I uninstalled and will see if that keeps the Realtek audio drivers from automatically updating.

If anyone is familiar with these Dell Update apps and removing them, please provide some feedback.

Thanks

Thank you. I spent half a day reading the other threads about intel rst, until i found this post about 9500. I uninstall the buggy realtek drivers and installed the older one as you suggested it worked.
