Alienware m17x r2 intel i7 940x upgrade
Hello can I upgrade my intel i7 quad core 940x or xm dunno to intel core i7 3610 QM or something atleast more powerful.The watt consuption of the 3610 is 45 watt and the 940 is 55watt.Just asking because my cpu is pretty old for guildwars 2

Was looking to upgrade the cpu in my m17x r2, does anyone know the fastest cpu i would be able to put in, (socket 989 rPGA) is it even possible ? i mean the highest avalivable is 940xm ?

short answer NO
Reason ... different sockets... different boards.... and so fourth
the 940XM is more then good enough for anything out right now let alone your system is more then powerfull enough
issues you have need to be dealt with first , you have so many threads here its liek the boy that called wolf. :O
anyway you are limited since your system was uch speced out, if you want speed get some solid stated and raid them up, system will post in 4-6 seconds and run liek a rocket, your limitations i beleive are your hard drives, if you already have solid states then soemthign is fishy.

yea unfortunatly the 940 was the fastest intel made for laptops of that generation
now as i said you want speed.. change the hard drives for solid states..... it will make your system like a corvette from the slow hard drives ..
my M17X R2 (dual 5870's and a I7 740(much slower then the 940) ) had 1 boot solid state and went form the 50 second post into windows to 4.6 seconds to windows.. eveything opened snappy... was insane difference
my wifes new acer laptop( some reason has same layout underside as M18X :/ ) is almost a shame it wont see gaming but has dual 256 gig ssd's and man well worth the 1500 i paid over the 1800 for a M14X R2 with far less specs
