AX4-5F disk upgrade/replacement
I've inherited an AX4-5F and though I've been reading up on it, I have no experience with the CLARiiON product line.
The AX4-5F currently has x12 300gb 15k rpm SAS drives in it. We're getting closer to capacity and need more space. Is replacing all of the disks with 600gb 15k rpm SAS drives a viable option? I've already confirmed that my version of FLARE (v02.23.050.5.703) will support drives with those specs, but some things I've read seem to indicate that specially formatted EMC drives are required. Is this the case, and if so, how can I recognize/find these drives? Searches for them seem to turn up a lot used drive resellers so I'm not sure if they just don't make them anymore, or if I'm searching for the wrong thing.
I know the first four drives are VAULT drives and contain the OS. Is there any special procedure for replacing the VAULT drive?
While it would be cheaper to just replace the drives with higher capacity, I'm not opposed to replacing the whole system if it provides significant benefits. I'd appreciate it if someone with more experience with these products than I could weigh in on the matter.
Thanks,
CDRIT
