Alienware M17x and AlienFx CC Problem
I have had my Alienware M17x for about 9 months and have not had any problems. But I have found now that my AlienFx seems to have stop working. The program opens up but tells me that the device is not recongnized and wants to know if I want to remove it from the application. I select "no". The screen changes and it still shows all the zones for the M17x, but I can not change any of the color themes. Anyone experiencing this same issue or know the fix for it?

I have the same problem. Only with me the problem appeared just after reinstalling windows 7. I can't get it working again. I have already tried reinstalling alienware comand center and reinstalling windows 7, but it doesn't solve the problem.
Have you solved the problem already? Cause I need some help with this.

I got same problem on my M17x... i was reinstalling windows and all Ligths got off! i think its same problem as yours Stybar...did you fix it ?
I don't know exactly, it happened after my warranty expired and I had a lot of other problems to. I ended up buying a new laptop.
From what i could find though the controller is on the mobo and that is quite expensive and difficult to replace by yourself .

not terribly difficult, however dell is responsible for releasing a faulty firmware upgrade.

* Be sure you have Admin privileges. Disable any Virus Protection software temporarily
* Uninstall the Command Center through the Control Panel- Add/Remove Programs
* Download and install CCleaner. Note - I chose to not install the CCleaner yahoo! Toolbar
* Run CCleaner
* Click Registry
* Click Scan for Issues
* Click Fix selected Issues
* Click Yes to backup the registry
* Click Fix All Selected issues
* Restart the PC
* Run CCleaner again
* Click Registry
* Click Scan for Issues
* Click Fix selected Issues
* Click Yes to backup the registry
* Click Fix All Selected issues
* Install the latest Command Center from our website. NOT from the Resource DVD
* Reboot the PC when finished
* Test the functionality of the Command Center. If still no go, the motherboard will have to be replaced. If out of warranty, you will need to purchase the motherboard through Spare Parts 800-357-3355. If inside of warranty, contact Alienware Support to arrange the motherboard replacement

Thats not right, its like trying to fix a gunshot wound with a band aid. If dell knows about a flaw in there product they are liable to fix the issue.

Altho the user reinstalled the software that caused the issue, the problem is in the software originally provided my dell, not the user.
