Hard Drive problem on cold boot!

Has anyone run into a problem where they added an extra hard drive to their laptop in Windows 7 where on a cold boot you get the blue screen (but not fatal) for an instant but it reboots itself and then lands you on the 'start windows normally/repair' screen? When I choose start windows normally, it completes the boot and everything runs fine. Even on subsequent restarts, it boots just fine-- no blue screen. It only happens on powered-down/cold boots. The blue screen has the error on it but it stays up for a fraction of a second which is not enough time for me to see what it says.

I suspect that the bios is not seeing the newly installed second hard drive so on a cold boot i went straight to the BIOS setup and saw that the BIOS indeed recognized my new hard drive. I am now running diagnostics on the system and not coming up with any errors. Just wondering what else it could be.

Ultimately the laptop runs fine and I am able to see and use the new hard drive but it is an utter nuisance to have to land at the 'start windows normally?' prompt in order to send it on its merry way from a cold boot...If you don't hit it on time it defaults to system repair and then locks up!

If you provide more info about your laptop model, what HDD you are installing, and what you did to prepare the new HDD ... someone might be able to help you.

So, the original HDD is still installed? When you startup the laptop with only the original HDD (original config.) everything is ok?
