AMD?

does dell make systems with amd processors? I've seen all the benchmarks and seen how it takes a 2.2ghz pentium4 to match the same benchmarks a 1.6athlon xp from amd can get. and anyone with computer knowledge will almost instantly recommend amd. so does dell support amd at all?

As far as I know, Dell doesn't use any AMD processors. You'd have to ask Dell why. You obviously are an AMD partisan. It's good Intel has competition -- keeps them on their toes, but check this out:

I use an AMD Athlon and thats tom's hardware made be correct about the diefferent heat damages but AMD is more powerful and if your processor overheats....then you must have some inexperience or accidents happen...but I have used AMD machines and have never seen this issue, INTEL stinks...AMD Rules

per clock cycle AMD CPUs are faster than Intel's.   But Intel has clocked it's processors up to 3.06Ghz.   AMD is nowhere near that.  That's why they rate their CPU's differently.   An Athlon XP 2800 is roughly equivalent to a Pentium 4 2.8 ghz.

I'll keep my Intel-powered Dell, but I'm definately going to try and build my own AMD gaming system.  I should've done a lot more researching before I purchase, but needless to say, I like my Dell.

Who cares if AMD has not got a 3 gig processor yet, Id rather have a reliable AMd than a worthless intel.

AMD may be a "better" CPU, or not. The bottom line is, Dell doesn't sell them. Period. Whining that Dell doesn't sell AMD is like whining that you can't get a Ford engine in your new GM. I'm sure they have their reasons, and I would suspect they are financially driven.  Can you imagine the deal that Dell probably gets on Intel CPU's? I'm sure Intel makes it well worth Dell's while to be their exclusive CPU supplier.

Test PROVE that AMD is better at 90% of the applications than Intel.
The AMD X2 3800+ of around 350€ is outperforming the Intel Extreme Edition which costs you up to three times more, 1050€.
And I'm not even talking about gaming, cause with gaming the AMD X2 3800+ is really blowing the Intel EE away. Check these test results from tweakers.net, they speak for themselves.

Why is Dell not selling AMD processors? Even in their XPS 'gaming' systems they put Intell processors, that really underperform compared to their AMD equivalents.

Dell is very good, cheap, high quality etc. But I think it's really stupid they don't let us choose what processor we will have in our system.

i have to say, my 1st amd system was my last. i bought an hp pavilion when xp just came out with a amd. yeah it was nice, but the processor died in 2 years!! At that time i HAD a intel system that was 10 years old and in great shape. that was trashed. anyways i thought intels were reliable and still are to me. My 1st AMD was my last. HOWEVER, in the future, AMDs are better at gaming, i might build my own amd gaming rig.otherwise to that, INTEL ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!
