Blue screen error message nv4_disp

I have a Dimension 8300, OS Windows XP Home SP2, Video Card is a Nividia GeForce FX 5200.
The following is what appears on the blue screen.
The problem caused by the following  file nv4_disp
The device driver got stuck in an infinite loop.  This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly.
 
The system will not reboot without the blue screen appearing, however, I can boot up in Safe Mode. I have read several posts and tried some different things: I downloaded the latest driver from dell and loaded it. I now have version 4.5.0.2 running. Another post I saw, said to flash the BIOS. I downloaded it, but the system would not let me load it. A box appeared that said windows could not configure it.
Any help would be appreciated.

    Well, I finally broke down and took the PC to a local repair shop. I had loaded drivers and researched and done what I was capable of doing with no luck. They called today and said the video card is bad. We are replacing it. Will let you know if this takes care of it. I have seen all kinds of fixes on numerous sites though.

    Hi

    Just found your post today.  I have had this same problem since my son installed a new game on my pc, Age of Empires 3.  Now my pc is blue screening with this error and have tried everything to fix it, removing all the nvidia drivers and re installing etc. 

    Any help would be appreciated please.

    I still have not picked up my PC from the repair shop. The new video card we ordered has not come in. I will post again to let you know if this takes care of the problem.

    To anyone interested. I got my PC back a couple days ago with a new video card and it is working great. They installed a new GeForce 6200 with 128mb.
