I recently installed a USB Smart card reader in my new Dell 4400 w/ P4 1.6 mg and windows XP. I have installed two other USB card readers to Dell computers with XP and never had a problem.

The card reader works fine as long as the USB plug is plugged while the computer is running. The problem occurs if the USB smart card reader is plugged in and I attempt a boot up.

The computer just stalls at the WWW.Dell.Com splash screen. This is the screen just before windows loads. If I reach over and unplug the USB Smart card reader, the computer continues to boot flawlessly. I should be able to boot this computer successfully with the USB card reader plugged in. We have no problem with the two other computers with the same card reader installed.
