E521 Boot Menu

Ok so I have tried everyway to get into the boot menue on an E521 Desktop (F2,F12 tapping before and after start) and nothing works is there any other way to get into the boot menu, I am trying to replace a crashed hard drive, so the hard drive is new without any OS on it.

F12 at POST  (Power On Self Test) is the correct way.  If it will not respond, perhaps there is a problem with the keyboard?

The keyboard should be plugged directly into a USB port on the rear, not through any USB hub.

If this is how you have it connected, reset the CMOS (BIOS) Memory and see if that helps.  With the PC powered off, open the case and remove the CR2032 backup battery located on the motherboard for at least 10 minutes.  Replace the battery, observing battery polarity, and power on and see if it the keyboard works now.

Yeah Jack , had already went that way as well thanks tho, so to answer my own question, never would have thought to check this but on the front there are two USB ports well it seems that one of them was shorted out which wouldn't allow any of the others to read properly thus not allowing me to enter the boot menu so, after one day of pulling my hair out and 2 hours on the phone with Dell (who basicly told me to do the same as I had already done) I took it to the shop and they discovered the short wasn't but $25.00 if I had known I would have spent the 25.00 way earlier LOL
