My best guess from your description is that you are getting a blue screen crash. There are hundreds of different one so to diagnose we would need more info. In particular the 1st line will contain a string of numbers followed by a very cryptic message about which module has had a problem.

Also look in the event log after rebooting, you should be able to track down the error that caused the shutdown in there.
