hibernates unexpectedly

as the title states, my machine tends to go into hibernation unexpectedly. i am usually on here surfing the web, checking email, chatting and so forth. the machine will beep once, and go directly to standby/hibernation mode, from there i have to do a hard boot by holding down the power button. green light on power button is steady, not blinking. the keyboard nor mouse will "wake" the system up. the hibernation modes are set to "never". i've contacted dell several times on this, now i am just frustrated with this. i've ran dell diagnostics, all hardware passed. i ran the dell diagnostics memory scan - everything passed. being that the hardware passed, i thought there's an issue with IE. i removed IE7 - issue persisted with IE6. i reinstalled IE7 - issue still persists. i have scanned my machine with symantec - no viruses or infections. i then thought there is an issue with my user account - i created a new user account - issue still persisted.

from here, i'm stumped. i've contacted dell support - they suggest i reinstall the OS. i really don't think it is the OS, as this problem has been happening since the computer was taken out of the box. any insight of what this could be?

i have searched the forums, there are a few old topics where people have had a similar issue, although i didn't see the outcome of what the issue was.

i'm thinking a possible video card or a possible motherboard failure, even though dell diagnostics don't report any errors..
