No Sound :'(

Please help.

I formatted and installed Windows XP Home edition on my machine. All is well except no sound. The sounds seem to play, i.e. no error messages, but i cant hear them, i checked all the wire connections, volume settings etc. Device Manager shows Multimedia Audio Controller is not installed and I have no idea what driver I need.

Under sound/video, etc.it shows several audio components including Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, WDM TVAudio, all listed as working properly.

I have checked all the driver CD's i have, but i cant find any drivers to install Multimedia Audio Controller, where can i get it from?

I have attempted to solve the problem, checking forums with similar problems, but i think i have confusded myself more than helped myself. But as far as i am aware my sound card is built in to the motherboard.

my system specs :
XP Home edition
DIMENSION 8400
intel pentium 4 CPU 3.4ghz
1022MB ram
Radeon X1600 series 256mb
200GB hard drive

i opened my computer up to see what the motherboard was, only to find a host of letters and numbers which i dont understand, but i think E210882 is the correct number, or LGA775, i really dont know what they both mean :S.

please, if anybody can point me in the right direction to sorting my sound out, it would be a great help
