Video adapter corruption? NEED HELP PLEASE
hello
i am having problems with (i think) my video display adapter. this happened while i was playing Oblivion (my new CPU game). while in the game i got a blue screen with nv4_disp error (infinite loop error) i restarted and the screen freaked out, it oscillated between regular and black. i restarted again and the dell load up screen now has green vertical lines around the logo and the bios screen has misspelled words and has colons wherever a space is supposed to be. then it moves to the xp loading screen whereafter it loses the connection between the monitor and the tower (it acts like i turned the comp off but is still running). if i start in safe mode everything is fine once it passes the ex load screen. i have uninstalled the video card (Nvidia 6800) in safe mode and that allows me to start in normal mode (it fixes the crash after the xp screen everything else is stilled messed up) when i log on the card is magically reinstalled and if i restart it degenerates back to before. i downloaded a driver cleanup application and that uninstalled the card. but if i reinstall the card then its back at square one. system info:
windows xp home edition version 2 SP2
Dell Dimension Dim 4700
Pentium 4 CPU 3.4 GHz
3.39Ghz, 3.00 GB Ram (Actually 4 gigs but it doesn't recognize the 4th for some reason)
i hope someone can help
Richard

Arolf60,
Have you tried multiple Nvidia drivers?

- you mean try different drivers available? i have tried the current nvida driver, the driver offered by dell and i have also tried rolling back the driver.also i called CompUSA (Computer store chain) and they said it sounded like a mother board problem. it will cost $100 to have look at my tower and determine whats wrong, is that wise? worth it?
