computer beeps at startup

I have a Inspiron 2100 and when I turn machine on it beeps constantly.I press a few keys and it will quit and bootup into windows XP. When I click on My Computer for example the screen just jumps from minimize to full screen constantly some times I can click on it and it will stop, but usually I can't. I think my computer is over heating, but I don't know how to tell. It feels extremely hot. I tried repairing windows, and I changed the memory. I'm lost someone please help. Thanks.

    holliej,

From your descriptionit sounds like you may have a stuck key on the keyboard and that the keyboard may need to be replaced.

Run the Dell Diagnostics on your keyboard and then contact technical support with the results.

You can email Dell by Clicking Here for assistance.

Please include your system service tag and a description of the problem and troubleshooting done to try to resolve it.

You can also call Dell Technical Support. The phone number to contact our US Mobile Computing Hotline is 800-822-8965 for Corporate/Government Accounts or at 800-247-9252 for Direct accounts.

You will be connected to a Technical Specialist who will help you resolve the issue over the phone or arrange the appropriate service.

If you are outside of the United States, you will need to contact Dell in your global area.

    Thank you for choosing Dell.

My guess is the same as John's, sound like a problem with the keyboard or the touchpad (or it's keys). If you are out of warranty, you can still try to connect an external keyboard and disconnect the internal keyboard and see if the problem doesn't appear anymore. The you'll need a new keyboard. You can find the service manual for your Inspiron on the Dell support page. However, to do so, it's good if you have some technical skills. If you are still under warranty, then I suggest you let Dell repair it.
Where does your laptop get hot?

The bottom of my laptop is Hot. I tried last night to run diag. my computer would run some test and then without me messing with the computer it starts the constant beeps, I usually have to press some keys to get it to stop, but sometimes I don't touch anything and it stops. I tried changing things in my bios, but it keeps poping up and asking me to restore default config. yes or no. It is out of warranty and I hate to purchase new keyboard if thats not problem. Thanks
