I have an XPS17 MLK using Windows 7. I tried unsuccessfully to instal Omnipage 18 (OCR software). Nuance, the manufacturer has also tried unsuccessfully. Nuance instructed me to instal 6 versions of Microsoft Visual C - some repaired what was already installed. I now have no idea whether I should keep all these versions and leave well enough alone or should I uninstal them. And I am not sure how to identify the ones that should be uninstalled. Is anyone able to advise please?

Thanks Pudgyone. I have 12 versions, most correspond basically with yours. The 2005 ATL update is missing and the 2010 x86 version is different. I think you are right. I will leave well enough alone. They can all stay there.
By the way, I used to have ABBYY Fine Reader 6 but with a new computer, I couldn't get hold of it again so I ended up buying Omnipage 18. Here's hoping Nuance can do something about installing it.It keeps telling me "not supported OS".

Not sure if I can help but I'll give this a try.
I have Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium installed on my Dell XPS L501x I have a Dell Printer that uses ABBYY FineReader 6.0 Sprint as it's OCR Program. I have no problems, so here are the versions of Microsoft Virtual C that show in programs and features.
Looks like you need all these versions installed.

Do you have an old Dell or Lexmark Printer?
Do you have the printer disk?

Unfortunately no. I used to have a Dell many years ago but I disposed of it. Now I have an Epson and a Canon but to get them to run on Windows 7, they had to be tweaked a bit so those discs are probably useless too.

BJBLB,
Put the printer disks in and stop them from running.
This is using a Dell Printer disk but should be similar. If your printer is an All-In-One, you need an OCR Program to scan to documents and fax.
As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.
