Volume/Brightness Controllers Missing

So a couple weeks ago I got a virus on my laptop and I took it to my university IT center to fix it. They got rid of the virus for me but it must have been in whatever controls the icons for brightness, volume, even the caps lock icon. Everything still works but it's kinda annoying not being able to see what I'm doing.

I've read through the forums for other people who have had this problem and I believe I need Dell Quickset to fix this. I tried to download it but it's telling me that I already have it on my laptop, then its saying that my computer doesn't support this program. I called Dell to help me but they're trying to charge me $140 to get something fixed that isn't a necessity.

Someone help me out please!

You might need to remove Quickset from your computer and then do a fresh installation. Please mention the name and model of your laptop and its operating system.

I can't even find Quickset on my computer. It's a Dell Inspiron 1545 with Windows Vista basic. I search for Quickset and nothing comes up, where is it?

It is a program. Look under Start/All Programs and see if you have "Dell Quickset" there. If so you should be able to uninstall it from the Control Panel Add/Remove Programs. If not found in Start/All Programs then you might not have it.

You can download it from the 1545 downloads page under 'Applications'.

Okay, it took some searching but I looked in my C Drive, went into the "Dell" folder, then into the "drivers" folder, then there is a folder called "R180762", and inside are: a windows installer packaged called "Quickset", a firefox document called "readme", an application "setup", and text document called "version".

    Should I delete everything?

I try to click on Quickset to install it but it says my computer is not compatible with the program.

The Quickset R180762 does not list the 1545 as one of the models it is compatible with, so try deleting the whole thing and downloading from the 1545 downloads page..

The only Quickset for Vista for the 1545 that I see should unpack and create a new folder named R197947.

Thank you so much for your help! I can't believe Dell was trying to charge me $140 for that!
