I bought a 2005fpw less than 6 months ago and encountered a strange problem: on the upper side of the display a line about 1 cm in height and across the whole screen in width was getting really hot soon after turning on the display. That area began getting darker and was soon looking lightly grey. I carefully checked other areas of the display where temperature seemed to be just fine. After some weeks it was getting worse and the defective area was strongly noticeable.
I rmaed my 2005fpw for a replacement which had severe backlight bleeding as did the one (the thrid) I recieved then some days later. I now have a new 2007wfp which seemed to be just nice. A few days ago I noticed AGAIN that there is a line on the upper display which is getting really hot. I´m pretty sure that it will result in just what I had with the 2005fpw. My TFTs always had a reasonable amount of space in all directions and the temperature in my room is about 20 degrees; running DVI-only via 7900GTX...
So my question is: Is there a name for that kind of problem? Is this problem already known? Since I am from Germany and have to deal with the Dell support here and I really can´t say I´d liked how that worked out in the past.
Thanks in advance, any help is highly appreciated!
The info I gave you is from posts here.
My 2407's are very warm in the upper right corner near the vent slots of the case.
I don't have any issues so far.
The temps on the screen itself are somewhat even so far.
Hi Chris! I absolutely agree, but I can´t think of anything causing this which could be my fault. Enough fresh air, enough space between wall and monitor, below 20 degrees in my room and I am the only user. I never was such clueless about a hardware problem...
I am actually having the same problem as geistx_x with my own 2007wfp - along the top edge of the screen there is a darker, greyish brown (burned in?) area. It's not a straight line (varies from quite narrow to about half an inch wide). I hadn't even thought to check the temperature of that part of the monitor compared to the rest of the screen. Upon checking, it seems it is in fact substantially warmer there.
I also have the color banding issues. I saw instructions a while back on how to send the monitor back for replacement, but I haven't been able to find them again.
