I haven't bought anything from Dell since my Dimension 8200 and that was such a hassle I stayed away form them. History has shown I was not alone for all sorts of reasons...mostly customer service and support.
So I picked up on the buzz about Dell's new 2209WA . It is supposed to be quite the monitor. Having an old NEC FP950 I thought I would give Dell another try. I ordered my monitor online on 2/22/2009 and it was to arrive on 2/26/2009. It did arrive the day it was supposed to...around 5:00 pm. Took time off form work for nothing. I am not blaming Dell for that of course. Just the luck of the delivery draw.
You may be asking "What about the monitor"? "How do you like it"? Can't tell you. I opened the carton and followed the directions. Step one is to be sure you have all the parts you are supposed to have. Check...got them all. Second step is to take the monitor out of the box, remove the wrapping and lay it down on the wrapping face down. Check... did that. Next, you are supposed to attach the stand to the monitor. That's where I stopped. On the back of the monitor, just below where the VGA cord is attached there is a permanent smudge about 3" x 2" long and wide. Sort of like someone took an eraser to it and de-glossed the finish of the black pebble-like surface. I can't imagine this happening in assembly. It is more like it was rubbed several times intentionally.
So, you are wondering what the big deal is. From my perspective I have all sorts of questions that this brings up. I am uncomfortable keeping the unit. Now I have to call Dell and find out how to return it. If I opt for a replacement I don't know what I will get.
I am major disappointed. I never went past that point. Never took the covering of the screen, attached any of the cables, or had a chance to se if the monitor is as good as some folks are saying. I wish I cold give you a report about the monitor's operation but I cannot.
I don’tknow what the return and replacement procedures are but they are going to be more time spent unnecessarily with an unknown outcome.:emotion-6:
I'm very sorry to hear of your problem (I've had my own problems with the very same monitor, posted about in other threads).
Since your product is faulty, damaged, and defective out of the box, you should be eligible for an Advanced Exchange. Once you contact Dell thru the proper channels (within a certain limited time frame), they should send you a brand new one, and you can send the bad one back afterwards. If your invoice has something like this on it, you may be eligible for the Advanced Exchange:
It sounds like you may need to just go ahead and request a Return Authorization from Dell and get your Advanced Exchange monitor to try - don't waste time, tho, before the time limit expires! If you wait too long to officially notify Dell properly, you may get a refurbished monitor as a replacement (which it sounds like you might have gotten by accident in the first place)! Make sure you insist you do not want a refurbished monitor as a replacement - just a brand new, untouched good one, which is what you paid for in the first place, and never got!
Thank you so much SunJo09. I think you are correct about the unit being refurbished. I am going to call today and let you know my results. Best regards, images
Had an issue with a scratch on my new Dell monitor stand, it was not refurbished LCD but some one just messed up during assembly. Dell asked if I wanted to either exchange or take off about $50.00 for the scratch stand that I could not see anyway and I opted for the $50 off. Give it a try or exchange it.
