2405wfp card reader install problem
Hi..
I just recently started having this problem.
Every time I turn on the monitor or switch back the input from another source to the pc source, it keeps trying to reinstall the card readers and errors out saying "Cannot Install Hardware"... the hardware is called "SMSC 223 U HS-SM USB Device". I get a similar message for the other 3 card reader devices on the monitor.
I've tried updating, uninstalling and rescanning for new devices but I get the same problem.
I also tried using a different usb cable connected to the monitor and connected it to a different port on the PC with no improvement.
The last thing I did was to do a windows update but I switched the monitor to a different source while rebooting the pc.. I'm wondering if this may have something up.
I tried uninstalling the updates and reinstalling with no improvement.
ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED.

Hi,
This is a summary of suggestions I've found for troubleshooting Windows not recognizing USB mass storage device issues. It may or may not be helpful in your case. There is also a discussion here.
USB Problems can sometimes be solved by deleting USB connections and having them redetected.
Step 1: Uninstall ALL USB devices via "Device Manager"
Device manager hides devices that are no longer connected, even when "Show hidden devices" is on. The workaround is to set an environment variable.
Right click on "My Computer" > Properties > Advanced > Environment Variables
Add the following:
Variable name: devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices
Variable value: 1
and
Variable name: devmgr_show_details
Variable value: 1
Reboot
Note: you may increase your chance of success by performing the following in Safe Mode.
Right click on "My Computer" > Properties > Hardware > Device manager > View > Show hidden devices
Click "+" to expand USB devices and Unknown devices
Delete grayed out devices, including any USB Mass Storage Devices.
Reboot
Step 2. If not successful..
Unplug ALL USB cables (except USB keyboard or mouse)
Go to Device Manager
Delete ALL USB connections
Reboot.
Reconnect USB devices one by one, starting with the problem device.
Step 3. If still not successful..
Restart machine with ALL USB devices disconnected (except USB keyboard or mouse)
Open Registry Editor
!! CAUTION: BACKUP THE REGISTRY, OR AT LEAST EXPORT KEYS BEFORE DELETING THEM !!
Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet\Enum\USB
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet00x\Enum\USB (where x is 1, 2, 3...)
Delete all these entries
Vid_xxxx&Pid_0000 (unknown USB device)
!! CAUTION: If you have a USB keyboard or mouse, do not remove the VID entry for these devices, otherwise, Windows may not restart correctly !!
Delete any remaining devices starting with
Vid_xxxx&Pid_xxxx
If you can not delete, right click, select Permissions and enable "Full Control"
Reboot
Reconnect USB devices one by one, starting with the problem device..
