I have a Dimension 2400 with a Dell E171FPb monitor. I plan on ordering a Dimension 4700 in a week or two, and was hoping to use my E171FPb with it, so that I don't have to get a new monitor.
But the question is, will the E171FPb monitor work on a Dimension 4700? i am concerned that it may not be compatible, and I can't find any info on it.
Any help that anyone can offer would be appreciated.
Yes, its compatible. However, since that monitor is only analog and not digital, than just make sure you connect the blue monitor cable to the blue connector on the video card with the 4700 system. Don't know which video card that you chose with the new system. Will probably have both the blue analog and the white digital connectors.
Thanks for the response. I was going to go with the PCI Express GeForce 6800, which is one of the cards that Dell offers with the 4700. You wouldn't happen to know if the 6800 PCIe has a blue connecter?
Yes, the Nvidia 6800 card is both analog ( Blue connector ) and DVI ( White Connector ).

Along these lines, I have a Dimension XPS T450 (yes, a bit dated) and I have just purchased a Dell 1703FP monitor. The monitor functions fine but the Dimension will not boot-up if the USB connection between the monitor and CPU is made (which allows the monitor to act as a USB hub). If I disconnect the USB cable from the CPU then it will boot correctly. I can then connect the USB from the monitor to the CPU and the Dimension will continue to operate normally but very few USB accessories can be connected to the hub on the monitor without causing the Dimension to crash. Is this a function of the fact that the Dimension is operating USB 1.1 while the monitor is USB 2.0?
Yes, it has both the blue connector for the analog and the white connector for the DVI ( Digital ) connection when and if you purchase a monitor that has a DVI connector as well.
