Monitor U2312HM buzzes in powersave, software bad

I can't believe how bad the software support for my monitor is. The monitor itself is great, but the rest... truly abysmal.

Warning: rant ahead, skip to the last paragraph of the post for the question.

First, just to mention my wife and I both have the same monitor (U2312HM) and she had no problems with it - she didn't even read the instructions and just plugged the monitor in... and it works! I, on the other hand, carefully attempted to install everything.

After connecting the monitor, inserting the accompanying CD and selecting the language, the first option is to install PowerNap Installation (complete). After clicking on the link, I automatically selected to save the file to disk (instead of just running it - which is my mistake, due to internet habits) and it refused to run (it wanted to grab some files that were still on the CD), with a plain "can't run" message popping up. Under "Details" of the error message, I noticed it is looking for some other files and I realized what I'm doing wrong. But why aren't these files all in one pack anyway if they can't be run separately??? Also why doesn't it tell me what it wants without me going into "Details" of the error message.

Alright, I run it from CD. It freezes the computer completely. Had to turn it off by holding the power button for a few seconds.

Fine, let's retry. This time it installs correctly (or so I thought). After a few hours I'm done with my work, I put the computer to Sleep, as I always do.

Next day, after trying to wake it up... nothing happens! The monitor receives no signal no matter what I try (I'm using the VGA port). I can see that the computer somewhat works because it does eject the CD tray when I press the eject button. Anyway after a bit of poking and no results I had to resort to turning the computer off manually again. Upon restarting it, I get the "Restoring Windows" message and, after half an hour it manages to get up (my desktop is completely messed up though, and who knows what else) with the message that Windows managed to recover from Blue Screen.

Oh well, let's go to the FAQs. "Is the monitor listed in the Device Manager under Monitors? If not, load the monitor driver and retest". Hm, maybe I skipped the driver? Let's reinstall it just in case (finding it on the messy CD also deserves a few comments about putting things in folders - the root is a mess, why!? Come on, folders are free, use them!). It says in the FAQs that my monitor should be recognized as a specific model in Device Manager and if it doesn't I should update my driver directly with the one from the site. I download it and follow the instructions.. only to have Windows tell me the drivers are up to date... ok so that's not it.

Maybe I should update PowerNap? Rightclick on the icon in systray, "there's a new version, download?" I say yes... but nothing happens. After a while I try again and get the same message but still no downloads of anything. Oh well at least it doesn't bloat the logfile like it used to. Oh well goodbye stupid PowerNap, you were useless anyway - uninstall.

And so on and so on.

Anyway. Why is the monitor producing a barely audible buzzing sound when it receives no signal? It is really irritating and hard to work anywhere near the computer (my workplace is pretty small).

Is your wife running with the same hardware (video card, operating system) ? Can you test her monitor in your workspace for the buzz? Can you post a video of the buzz so we can hear it?
