When I powered up my monitor this morning I got no picture. The display just rotates between green red blue black and grey screens. I have tried another monitor with my computer and that works fine so it must be the U2713 monitor that is not working. It seems to be stuck in some diagnostics mode. I cannot access the menu via button 4. The only button that responds initially is the input select button.
I tried this a few times without success. Having resigned myself to the monitor having a permanent fault I decided to purchase a new Dell U2415 which I have now set up in my system.
Being an engineer I was reluctant to consign the old U2713H to the scrap heap so today I gave it one more try. Whilst I was going through the procedure my wife came in and spoke sternly to the faulty monitor. Guess what? on the next reset attempt it sprang into life. So I now have two monitors.
How critical is the 30 seconds hold down of the power switch? Seems really odd that it took many attempts to clear the factory mode. And I do not know how it got into that mode as I am the only user and I did not do it.
Somehow, someone turned on either the Built-in Diagnostics, page 62, or entered the Dell internal Factory Menu and turned on burn in mode?
Disconnect the power cord from the bottom of the monitor. Press and hold in the monitor power button for 30 seconds. Reconnect the monitor power cord and connect to the computer. Turn the monitor on, then the computer. What do you see?

Anyway thanks for the help Chris.
