Hi all. I'm going through my servers and picking certain files/folders to verify. I'm trying to verify one folder and this is the message that I get:
"Not all required volumes are on-line. Proceed with recovery at this time?"
two questions: what does the 'not all required volumes are online' mean and is that normal and 2.) why does it call it RECOVER when i'm trying to verify it. I've noticed NW has some strange jargon. thanks

When use recover first step is ask into recover cli for "volumes", this indicate what volumes are necessary and what of this offline (or out of library)539

I got the first part. My issue though is i'm not trying to RECOVER; i'm just doing a VERIFY of various files/folders and the language it uses "recover' in the place of verify539

when I do get the 'not all volumes are online' message will this prevent the verify from running or will it skip files that it may need?539

Mark,
Recover will stall when it needs the volume that is
not on-line. There will be a request to mount the
necessary volume.

there's that word again: recover!!! Why does it use that terminology during a VERIFY operation, just curious. Thanks Vic539

Could you explain what commands you're using. To my knowledge the recover utility doesn't have a verify option to it. I've been looking at the manpage (I'm UNIX) for it and don't see any verify option. The utility simply restores files, hope you don't accidently restore files when you don't want to.
Also, what vesrion of NW are you using?

What do you think verify is? It is recover of course. So what is the difference between verify and recover? Well, both will read but recover will bring back data while verify won't. Does it make more sense now?539

Hi. If you go into networker user there is an option to VERIFY files; verify that you have good backups you can recover. NOT the same as recover as far as I can tell. It's in the NW 7.4sp1 handbook on page 63 right before the seciton on de duplication
