Go to SolutionNeed Help setting up Guest VLAN on PC3548 switch to work with WAP.
I am very new to VLAN. Here is my dilemma. I have a Cisco SAP4110N (WAP) with VLAN capability and multiple SSID broadcasts. I setup 2 SSIDs on the WAP. One for Internal users which is unrestricted on our network. The other SSID will be for Guests and will be setup only for Internet access to an outside router with internal DHCP server. I have setup what I believe is a VLAN on my Dell Power Connect 3548 switch with the Cisco WAP attached to Port 1 of my switch with VLAN 1 and a Tagged VLAN 2 for Guest traffic. I have VLAN 1 as the default for the WAP Internal user SSID and VLAN 2 as the default for Guest use tied to the Guest SSID inside the WAP. I have Port 48 on the 3548 switch setup as a Trunk connection with VLAN 2 assigned and my guest router with internal DHCP attached to that port.
My thinking is that anytime someone makes a connection to the WAP using the main SSID will send untagged packets through our switch and be routed to all open ports on VLAN 1 and pickup a DHCP IP address using our internal DHCP server. Now any guest who connects to our WAP through the guest SSID should be tagged and routed to VLAN 2 on our switch and to the only open port 48 which is attached to our guest internet router with internal DHCP server. I have already setup this scenario but here is my problem: while the internal SSID tied to VLAN one works fine for internal users, picking up an IP from our internal DHCP server, the guest SSID has an issue. The Guest SSID connects fine with the WAP but it doesn't seem to find the guest internet router and doesn't get an IP from its internal DHCP server assigned on VLAN2 on port 48 of the switch. I may not fully understand how to accomplish this correctly within the DELL PC 3548 switch. Please help! Thanks.

OK,
I figured it out myself. DELL PC 3548 Switch Port 1 connected to WAP needs to be trunked, untagged member of VLAN1 and tagged Member of VLAN2. Port 48 connected to DHCP Internet router needs to be trunked, untagged member of VLAN2 only.
