Computer doesn't recognize cd drive.

My Dimension Desktop recently has refused to recognize its CD drive. Any thoughts on how to overcome or correct this problem? When i try to use it I get an error message that the drive is not attached.

    One of three things has happened:

    1. the drive has physically failed whihc means it's time to buy an new one
    2. the drive connection to the motherboard via the IDE cable is loose or disconnected (reseat the cable)
    3. the power plug is loose (reconnect)
