Internet locking and duplicating in task manager

Hi,
I am having a problem with my Dell Dimension 4600. I have windows xp, and a cable modem. While I am in an internet page and open a new page through a link and then close that second window, the first window almost always goes into a Not Responding status. I then will click ctrl-alt-delete and there will be like a "ghost" of the window running in the background and I will have to clothes both of them. This happens quite often, and to be honest gets pretty frustrating when I am constantly having to close and open new windows constantly . This only happens when I am on internet sites, it does not happen when I am in other window programs. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Since most problems with Internet Explorer are caused by spyware/malware, have you checked your system for spyware with several antispyware programs?  If so, you might want to consider going Here and following the directions to download and run the analysis tool called HijackThis. Generate a log file, then open it and copy and paste the text of the log file in a message in the HijackThis forum where a HijackThis expert can offer advice on how to fix the problem.
