I am after some help getting a 3010 sff to boot into the BIOS settings. Windows boots ok but when pressing f2, it stalls with a black screen and numbers 1 & 2 are lit on the front panel. The same happens when trying to access the settings through f12.
When you see the 1 & 2 what is the colour of the power button light, amber or normal colour (it makes a difference). If amber it indicates a system board failure. If normal it indicates an expansion card failure. The codes can be found here. It makes me wonder if the CMOS battery could be giving you trouble. Have you tried replacing it with a brand new battery? If you do replace it be sure to leave the battery out of the system for 15 minutes before installing the new battery.

Re: when pressing f2, it stalls with a black screen
JOCean's idea of changing cmos battery is very good. also try clear cmos settings by reset jumper on motherboard. are you using on board video port to access BIOS? If yes try to use VGA rather than HDMI. the idea is to use the simplest video port for bios.
It is just at power up BIOS for some reason is not responding to human interaction key F2 and F12. Computer is otherwise working and able to boot into OS, that is why Windows is still working. I have an old Dell XPS that did this until I reset jumper. but it did not last long. I was able to get in bios once or twice. my best explanation is cmos chip is getting old.
Thanks for the response. I have tried the reset by jumper method to no avail. I am using hdmi so will give vga a go. Why would it still boot into windows ok though?
Just a fresh set of eyes here. I would also suggest letting the pc do a full boot. Google optiplex 3010 bios update. Look for the legitimate Dell website and install the latest bios update. I’m not certain but I have heard of really outdated bios versions glitching in certain circumstances. Hope this helps.
