I am looking to see if I can get some assistance on a recurring error we get on one of our servers. I've dug through the search results but can't see to find a conclusive reason for this problem.
The server is a PowerEdge T610
The sequence of alerts/warnings usually go something like:
- Unexpected sense. SCSI sense data: Sense key: 3 Sense code: 11 Sense qualifier: 0: Physical Disk 1:0:7 Controller 0, Connector 1
- The Patrol Read corrected a media error.: Physical Disk 1:0:7 Controller 0, Connector 1
- The Patrol Read has stopped.: Controller 0 (PERC 6/i Integrated)
- (and then 5 - 20 instances of) Command timeout on physical disk: Physical Disk 1:0:7 Controller 0, Connector 1
We do run local backups to a network location on this server, however the timeouts do not usually occur while these are running.
The disk in question is non a "official Dell hard disk". We are speculating that this is the reason for the problem, but would like confirmation to put our minds at ease.
What is the driver and firmware version on the controller? If it is really far out of date then it can cause the timeouts. What is the drive and array showing under the controller currently?
