Does the T40 accept non ecc memory?

Hi All,
I know that the memory we put into a DELL T40 should be ECC.

But we want 64GB in the new server we bought and I would like to know if non ECC memory will actually work.

I am guessing it will work unless the BIOS has some check for ECC and rejects non ECC memory.

Could anyone here confirm that non ECC memory will work before I open the packaging on one of the memory modules and test it?

Thanks.

Peter

    Hi Chris,

Just to close out this post. My T40 is running fine with two of these memory modules in it.

    HyperX Fury Black 16GB DDR4 2666MHz CL16 Memory - PC Garage

The trick was that I had to install them in the 1 and 2 slots according to the manual. Not just in the first two slots physically in the machine.

I intend to buy two more at the beginning of next month when I get paid.

    Best Regards

    Peter

    PeterJones,

I do see some Non-ECC dimms listed for the T40, such as part #

    9CXF2 (Single Rank 8gb)
    DK8NX (Single Rank 16gb)
    TP9W1 (Dual Rank 16GB)

Let me know if this helps.

    Hi Chris,

well, if the T40 is similar then it should work.

I will give it a go tomorrow.

My USB drive was dead so I had to order a new one to install windows server.

And the new USB drive won't get to me until tomorrow.

I will let you know what happens.

    Best Regards

    Peter

Sorry that was a typo, I meant for it to say T40, as there isn't an R40.

Let me know how it goes.

    Hi Chris,
I will. Given there is documentation about non ecc memory being used I am going to guess it is ok.

Right now I have managed to create my USB boot drive using RUFUS but I can't see it in the BIOS to set it in the boot manager. So I will start a different thread for that.

    Best Regards
