Single-bit ECC error in PERC H710 mini
Dear All,
I have a PowerEdge R720xd. In OMSA I see this error:
"Single-bit ECC error. The controller DIMM is nonfunctional. There will be no further reporting.: Controller 0 (PERC
H710 Mini)"
Looking at the details of the error code (2321) it says:
"Action: Replace the DIMM immediately. The DIMM is a part of the controller battery pack. See your hardware documentation for information on replacing the DIMM."
It is my understanding, however, that the DIMM in the H710 mini is built into the controller and I need to replace the controller.
I have three questions:
1. I need to replace the PERC H710 Mini. Is this correct?
2. Should I shut down the machine until I replace the piece to minimize risk of data loss?
3. Can someone confirm the part number? I think the DELL part number of the piece is MCR5X with manufacturer part number 405-12070. But I am unable to find it via https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/partsforyourdell/index (using either the service tag or the part number). (The info I have I got from the purchase order and https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Configuration/ServiceTag/)

Thanks a lot for your reply. Understood now what is the course of action and the risks of delaying replacing the controller. I was able to get a quotation for the piece (though no idea if it is the 5CT6D or the MCR5X ---but based on the what is being sold as refurbished, it seems both are either referring to the same thing or either would work).

Hello,
1. Yes, replacing the PERC is what you would need to do
2. The server can operate without being able to use the cache, but will operate with degraded performance and would lose data in the event of a power loss.
3. The part number can, but what I see listed right now is 5CT6D. The others are H710P models. I didn't see the card on our website, but you may still be able to get it from Sales, if you give them a call.
