Autoloader Best Practices

I just upgraded from using a single-slot LTO2 drive in a PowerEdge 2900 III to a 16-slot LTO4 autoloader (124T). We use the grandfather / father / son methodology for our backups:

Full backup last Friday of each month
Differential backup each Friday except the last
Incremental backup Monday - Thursday

We have a fire-resistant media safe that holds our 4 incremental and 4 differential tapes when they're not in use. Should I start storing these tapes in the autoloader to take advantage of it's capabilities, or should I only use the autoloader during full backups?

I know this might be a very subjective question, but what would the "best practice" be in this situation?

You bought it use it!  :emotion-1:

Just create media sets in your backup application, ie Daily , Weekly , Monthly then setup your corresponding jobs to pull media from those sets, this will prevent incremental backups from being appended w/ differential backups etc... makes it easy to move to your safe.

If you don't have to send off media anywhere for data retention reasons and your Full backups will complete in your overnight backup window have you thought about just running Full backups nightly? that way you could just have 2 sets of media... one in the fie safe and one in the loader, each morning swap the sets.
