MD3200 - Failed Drive -- Need Advice
I have 2 failed drives in a RAID 10, and the 2 affected drives are unfortunately a .mirrored pair. I am new to this and really need some simple advice.
1) Do I have any chance of recovering the data store myself? I had a new drive and replaced one of the failed drives. It is now showing "unassigned" in MDSM. The data store is still in a failed state.
2) If I can't do a simple recovery using new drives andMDSM, I have contacted a local data recovery company. Before removing any of the drives, I attempted to use the "Prepare for Removal" option, but I don't seem to have the correct password.
Is it safe to remove the drives while the MD3200 is on? I have one other array in the system (6 other disks) and it is still working. I thought I could power down the 2 Dell 710 hosts connected to the MD3200. Then I could power down the MD3200 and remove all the drives from my failed data store. Then I would revers the steps to power the MD3200 and 710s back on.
My situation seems a little dire, and I'm not a hardware guru, so I would appreciate any advice I can get.
Thank you, Tom
