I have two Precision 3630 with Quadro P2000 graphics cards. When the user views a video or even a gif, the graphics driver crashes, causing all windows to move to the main screen and their CAD software Creo 7 to crash completely. It only occurs when the monitor(s) is plugged into the graphics card, onboard is fine.
This will only happen once per boot, so the current workaround has been to force the crash first thing in the morning.
At this point I have tried everything I can think of, and Nvidia support have told me to contact Dell. Both machines are unfortunately now out of warranty.
Error in event viewer: Event ID - 1. States Error code 3 (subcode 2), Unable to recover from a kernal exception.
What I have tried so far:
Latest driver
Dell recommended driver
Updating all PC drivers
Disabling Intel graphics adapter in device manager
Thanks, we are already on a higher version of Creo.
Its not Creo related to be honest, during testing after an OS reinstall, the driver crashed whilst viewing an online video before any software was installed
Then try a different branch of driver, or raise a support call for your graphics card (Not possible since the warranty has already expired. DELL-Admin.)
It could be a gpu firmware thing, too. Have you tried with an older monitor ( so an older revision of the displayport, assuming you use that ) ? Or using hdmi if dp , dp if using hdmi ?
I think I may have found a solution yes. It was driver related as predicted. I had to just find the driver that worked.
Using NVidia's advanced search and going through older drivers I found this one that works without crashes: 392.68. I did see two versions, I used the one without RTX. So far its been running two days without issues. Obviously running a year old driver isn't ideal, but so far its not caused any problems.
I have also ran into this issue . I have 3 Dell Precision 3630’s in a 9-1-1 Dispatch center , running 6 displays. All have dual nvidia quadro p1000.
I have had both GPU’s replaced, new motherboard and processor.
I’ve attempted to rollback nvidia driver. I attempted to install the latest. I’ve updated bios. Factory defaulted bios . Lastly I’ve re-imaged but unfortunately my cad requires me to stay on Win10 21h1 and I can’t update further .
I most recently had 1 sent out to dells depot to see what happens. They emailed me to say it was re-imaged however if they updated me past 21h1 I have to reimage again and will end up in the same boat
i also have 2 more 3630s having similar issues, 1 is my personal desktop and I occasionally lose all the screens but they recover .
it seems video/YouTube triggers my crash on all workstations. Once rebooted it’s fine for a while
did you find a fix? Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Sorry to see the issues happening at a 9-1-1 dispatch center.
Only a couple of things I can think of I didn't see in this thread...
The 3630 had 3 options for PSU's - 300w, 460w, and 850w. While the Quadro P1000 is only 47w, two of those could easily tax a 300w PSU. By any chance do you know what PSU's they have?
I don't know if you can do this at the dispatch center, but may be on your personal 3630, download HWiNFO (HWiNFO.com). See if any temps. rise before the crashes. The chassis the 3630 sits in has had cooling issues.
Replace the size 2032 CMOS battery in just one of the machines and see how it behaves. The 3630 is around that age (4-5 yrs.) the battery starts going and causes bizarre problems difficult to troubleshoot. No guarantees on the battery, but worth a shot if everything else fails.
I kept wondering about the power supply theory myself or maybe even faulty power supplies.
I verified that I have the 460 watt power supplies in these.
But the odd thing is all 3 of them started doing it around June 1st week, and all 3 of them were purchased on the same order around the same time, I believe these were all put in production end of 2019 early 2020 so they are fairly new pcs. None of these pcs has a single video issue for the past 2-3 years.
I did not test the cmos battery, although my clock time is holding correctly, it can't hurt to try and I do have a few on the shelf.
I can also try the temp software, I apologize for the noob question here, how do I know the temp upon crashing is it logged or would I have to have my Dispatchers watch for the crash to try and see what temp its clocking at? I have had overheating issues in the past with my older precisions since they get heavy use.
I really thought it was a driver issue since they all got an update on June 1st from NVIDIA , however I rolled back and even updated to a newer video driver than the problematic June 1 . But maybe EGFV is on to something with the OLDER gpu driver , I'm hoping to get some feedback on if that helped since that post was in May.
Anyway,
I appreciate you taking the time to try to help. I'm open to trying anything at this point and ill give the cmos a shot, as i feel like all 3 of these are headed for a Dell direct replacement
